1. Industrial computer parameters and installation

Many industrial automation applications require computers that can withstand harsh environmental conditions.


When choosing a computer to be used in a dusty environment, a fanless industrial computer is a relatively good choice. Computers with fans may fail due to dust contamination and reduce performance. Computers with fans suck in dust, which collects on internal components and obstructs necessary airflow. When the system is affected by dust pollution, its cooling capacity will be reduced. Many computer applications, such as food processing, food manufacturing, and clean rooms, require the ability to flush computers with water jets or chemicals. 3. Product life cycle and long-term availability


Perhaps the important difference between industrial computers and consumer alternatives is life cycle support. Most consumer and business-grade computers provide a very limited purchasing life cycle. Unless the manufacturer explicitly states, these types of computers will usually stop using them within six to twelve months. This may cause problems for industrial applications. When computer components change, it usually produces unnecessary side effects. Software that has been proven to run on a system may not run properly on new hardware iterations. When the hardware components are changed, the operating system image is no longer compatible, which requires the creation of a new software image when the hardware changes. Managing different software deployments on multiple hardware platforms complicates the IT infrastructure and is never desirable. In addition to changes to the motherboard and internal components, consumer and enterprise computers are also affected by form factors. The PC case and touch screen shape of consumer computers will often change, so consumer computers that are available after six months may no longer be suitable for this application.
